Today we are joining with Common Grace and churches all across these lands now called Australia for Aboriginal Sunday, the Sunday before January 26th. We are taking up the call of Aboriginal Christian Leader William Cooper, for churches of all denominations to mark this day as Aboriginal Sunday, a day for Christians to act in solidarity with Aboriginal peoples and to remember the injustices being experienced. William Cooper’s legacy lives on in many ways. His initiative was eventually moved to the first Sunday in July and is now the start of NAIDOC Week when Aboriginal culture is celebrated nationally. Today, we are also responding to William Cooper’s call to action and we are a part of making his dream of Aboriginal Sunday a reality. We mark this here at Christ Church by acknowledging country in voice; by having some prayers prayed at the end of our liturgy and by displaying the Southern Region R.A.P painting.
